Cookie policy
What we store on your device, what each item is for, and how to change your mind.
Draft pending legal review. UK rules on cookies and similar storage sit under PECR as well as UK GDPR, and this page should be checked by a qualified adviser before launch.
This page covers cookies and similar technologies — local storage, pixels and device identifiers. We will call all of them "cookies" for brevity.
Our approach
Non-essential cookies are not set until you consent. Strictly necessary ones are set regardless, because the site cannot work without them — that is permitted without consent.
You can change your choices at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer.
Categories
Strictly necessary
Always active. These make the site function and cannot be switched off.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
electramile_session |
Keeps your session state | Session |
XSRF-TOKEN |
Protects forms against cross-site request forgery | Session |
em_market |
Remembers whether you chose UK or US | 1 year |
appearance |
Remembers light or dark theme | 1 year |
em_consent |
Records your cookie choices | 1 year |
Note that em_market and appearance are strictly necessary in the sense that they only store a preference you actively chose, and are not used to track you.
Analytics
Set only with consent. Tells us which pages are read and where readers arrive from, so we know what to write more of.
Configured to avoid identifying individuals. Declining costs you nothing.
Advertising
Set only with consent. Used by advertising partners to deliver and measure adverts.
Declining means you will still see advertising, but it will be less relevant.
Changing your mind
Use the cookie settings link in the footer, or clear cookies for this site in your browser. Clearing cookies also clears your market and theme choice.
Most browsers let you block cookies entirely. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break parts of the site.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where your browser sends one, treating it as a withdrawal of consent for advertising cookies.
