Found something wrong? Tell us. Here is how we handle it.
We publish a lot of numbers, and numbers change. If something here is wrong, out of date, or misleading, we want to know.
Report an error
Use the contact form and choose "Correction". Include:
- The page — the URL, or enough of the title to find it
- What appears wrong — the specific claim or figure
- A source, if you have one — this speeds things up enormously
An email address is optional. Give one only if you would like a reply.
What happens next
Every report moves through four states:
- New — received, not yet looked at
- Investigating — we are checking it against sources
- Fixed — the page has been corrected
- Rejected — we checked and believe the page is right, with a reason
How we correct
Small errors — typos, broken links, formatting — are fixed without ceremony. These do not change the page's "Updated" date, because a refreshed date that reflects a typo fix makes the date meaningless.
Material corrections — a wrong figure, an out-of-date eligibility rule, a claim that does not hold — update the page's material revision date and add a dated "What changed" note explaining the correction.
We do not silently edit a substantive claim and pretend it always said the new thing.
Things that are not errors
- An estimate differing from your real-world result. Estimates are labelled as estimates and show their assumptions.
- A figure being out of date between scheduled reviews. Check the review date on the page; if it has passed, do tell us.
- Disagreeing with a recommendation. We are happy to hear it, but a judgement is not a factual error.
