How we make money

Affiliate commission and advertising. Here is exactly how that works, and what it does not change.

ElectraMile is free to read. It is funded in two ways, and we would rather you understood both than wondered.

Affiliate commission

Some links to products or services earn us a commission if you buy after clicking. The price you pay is the same either way.

What that changes: nothing about which products we recommend, what we say about them, or the specifications we publish. Where we earn a commission, the page says so next to the recommendation — not only in a footer.

What we will not do:

  • Recommend a worse product because it pays better
  • Hide a product's weaknesses because we earn on it
  • Present an affiliate link as a neutral reference
  • Keep a recommendation live after a product is discontinued or a link breaks

Affiliate links are held in a registry rather than pasted into article text, so we can check they still work and retire them when a programme ends.

Advertising

We show display advertising on some pages. Ad slots reserve their space before an ad loads, so an advert appearing cannot shift the text you are reading.

We do not run advertising on calculator pages, where it would get in the way of the task.

Where consent is required for advertising or measurement technology, we ask for it and record your choice. You can change it at any time from the cookie policy page.

If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be labelled as sponsored, clearly and at the top — not in small print at the bottom. Sponsorship does not buy a favourable conclusion, a ranking position, or a change to a specification.

We do not currently run sponsored content.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal data. We do not accept payment to remove criticism. We do not run "best of" lists whose order is decided by commission rate.

Why this page exists

Publishing that earns commission is normal, and readers are entitled to know. UK advertising rules and the US FTC's endorsement guidance both require clear disclosure of material commercial relationships, and we would rather over-disclose.

If something on the site looks like an undisclosed commercial arrangement, please tell us.
